Blurb: Ozahl is a Forged, an artificial automaton-like being created by lost methods fusing magic and alchemy, works as an assistant to a renowned Glass Court artificer, Anamar Belforin. Ozahl became an assistant under Anamar to learn his rare craft. However, he soon found that the only thing he’d be learning to do, is how to clean. When Ozahl learns that his master is hosting the yearly Apprentice Trials, he sees this as his chance to seize the life he dreams of, as those who pass this exam are formally recognized by the Courts, allowing them to train under their members. Fearing a life of mundane chores, Ozahl pleads with his master, finally obtaining permission to join on the condition he completes a difficult assignment. The magical plants and creatures he encounters along the way are the least of his troubles, as Ozahl possesses an impossible flaw; a defect in his creation. Should he complete his assignment and pass the trials, would the master he respects so much even accept him? Warnings: Violence, death, mild themes of PTSD and depression. State: Finished; currently sitting at around 70,000 words. The novel is feature-complete, but I want to run it through some outside minds. Feedback: Mainly looking for thoughts on character development, story progression, world building, and prose. I have attached the first four chapters. If you take the plunge and enjoy what you find, I would love to share the rest. I would also love to hear of any novels that might be similar to my own in themes, plot, or style.
